Gartersnake Caught under a cover board-Sept 19 2008

When checking the snake coverboards we find this garter snake that is entangled in the mesh netting that was a part of the carpet padding. Obviously there needs to be a design change to these cover boards.

Skeletonized Oak Leafs – July 9 2008

As I am walking in to work I look up and see these caterpillars skeletonizing the leafs of this Chinkapin Oak. The leaf to the right has already been finished as is only veins.

It is so interesting to see these creatures work to pick the leafs clean. I wonder how long they stay together as a group? Also what advantage is there to them staying together?

Fire Kites – June 25 2008

During a few of our evening camp fires we lite some fire kites. These are a big hit with the campers. All it takes is a sheet of newspaper, a staple, a match, & a safe place to light them.

This tiny (crab?) spider is soaking up some of the sun’s rays getting ready for some insects.

Here’s a Wolf Spider Ready for Spring – March 26, 2008

This 3 inch long spider was in the Sycamore fire ring. It’s moving slow, but I assume its ready for spring.
