Spittle Bug – May 19, 2006

Here's a spittle bug that I found along massasauga trail.

Greatest Leapers
These bug are the worlds greatest leapers. Some jump so fast that they experience up to 400 g forces. Humans typically pass out at 5g forces.
Why is it called a spittle bug?

These insects encase themselves in a blob of bubbly foam that looks like…well…spit. You can see the spittle bug in the picture below.
