Wetland Burn #2 - April 6, 2008
Today is the second wetland burn provided to camp by the DNR L .I.P. Landowner Incentive Program. This burn will hopefully help to open up our wetland so that more grasses and sedges can grow.

Miner Bees Mating - April 6, 2008, originally uploaded by Camp Naturalist.
As I’m walking by the base of Turtle Hill to check out the wetland burn at main camp I spy these miner bees in what I guess to be a mating ball.
The hole to the right is a miner bee’s burrow.
This faint line in the two pictures below is the return flight of the woodcock from its noisy circular areal mating trip. On hearing the woodcock “meep” I return the call and this sends the male woodcock into its courtship journey. This calling to a male woodcock is timberdoodling. I am able to get the bird to take 4 flights. It’s difficult to get good photos. Here you can hear the woodcock’s call.
