Miner Bees Mating - April 6, 2008, originally uploaded by Camp Naturalist.

As I’m walking by the base of Turtle Hill to check out the wetland burn at main camp I spy these miner bees in what I guess to be a mating ball.

The hole to the right is a miner bee’s burrow.

White Pine Caterpillar in Needles Fused - October 8, 2007

White Pine Caterpillar in Needles Fused #2, originally uploaded by Camp Naturalist.

Inside these 2 clusters of white pine needles are little green caterpillars. One came very quickly out the home it had made as I begin to take apart some of the needles. I don’t know what kind of insect this is?

Insect gall - September 11, 2007

Insect gall - September 11, 2007, originally uploaded by Camp Naturalist.

This interesting object is the home to wasp of some kind. I believe these are called oak apple galls. I’m facinated that these wasps can cause oak to create a home for them.
