On my way home I see this 1 inch butterfly in the grass. When it opens its wings there’s a burst of blue.
I’m not sure but I thing this is a Summer Azure(Celastrina laden neglecta)?
Just beyond the muskrat swimming towards me are the many turtles(likely painted) on this log is the fen. A swan decided to join them on this warm sunny day.
Barred Owl by Nature Center - March 30 2007

Here is a frequent visitor to came, the barred owl. Often times Camp Friedensawald has two or so owls that call back and forth to each other.
It’s fun to try and call in an owl. I’ve done it a few times. When you do an owl call and get one to come near you it’s like your Dr. Doolittle or St. Francis. I imagine the owls are just annoyed.
